Worlds of Fun

This weekend was great fun. On Saturday I was able to join Meagan and Matt to watch Adam's band play at a park not far from my dorm. Afterwards Meagan and I went to Tom Foolery's for some foods and drinks on the plaza. I don't know if you've ever been to the plaza here in KC but it is awesome on the weekends. Street performers set up shop at every corner so there are musicians and dancers among others. This week there were statuaries (or whatever you call them) on the plaza. We saw one lady who had painted herself up and stood perfectly still like a statue until you tip her when she pulls a string on her umbrella to reveal all kinds of things on string. I was able to take a picture with her.

On Saturday we went to Worlds of Fun and had...well...worlds of fun. We were there for 10 hours and rode every rollercoaster in the park. Some of them were absolutely amazing, even though my roommate swore we wouldn't be friends anymore after I got her to ride one of them. I went with a group of interns from Cerner. We started out as a big group and kind of broke up as the day went on. Before part of the group went over to Oceans of Fun (the water park) I snapped this great shot of Peter (left) and Jason (right) emulating the gorilla we found in the Africa part of the park. I also got a group of us to take an old time saloon photo which may find its way to my blog later, but I am too lazy right now to hook up my printer and scan it into the computer. Next weekend Jesse is coming into town for the great Kansas City barbecue whatever it is and the weekend after my mom and aunt are coming down so there should be more great stories to follow, don't miss out!

Mish Mash

WARNING: THIS IS KIND OF A LONG POST...

This week Jesse requested that I post pictures of my dorm...but that is boring. I would post a picture and explain, this is my room, it has four walls and a cold floor. Instead I took a picture from the lounge windows so you can see our view. You can see in the distance the art museum I was at last week. I still haven't gone back to look around, probably next weekend, maybe tomorrow. Similarly though, if you look at the picture from last week that had the view of the river you can see my dorm, it looks a heck of a lot like Husker Courtyards, except the inside isn't nearly as nice. But it's in a nice place, if you go north or west...

Also, as an intern I have an incredibly stressful job where I do a lot of nothing all day. This takes a lot of effort, trying to find things to do all day. It's like those last few weeks of summer where you are bored and know you should be doing something but can't find anything to do so you sit and stare at your computer screen while unknowingly drool all over yourself...well, I skip the drool part. Anyways, the point is that on Saturday I went out to the dark horse with the guys from work and Meagan. Since I had partied a little too hard with David for his birthday on Thursday I skipped the drinking part and left early (I know...lame). So Meagan and I called Matt Beermann to find some good bad tacos to eat. They suggested a place called Ponchos and after much begging, convinced them to join us. In the end four sober people ate drunken tacos and Adam created the beautiful taco face shown on the right.

Of course I had to follow a great eventful night with a great day so I woke up at the buttcrack of dawn (9:00 am) and went with Meagan to the farmers market in riverport. We picked up the makings of a great dinner for 4 people under $20. Steaks and a great salad :), we'll enjoy that tomorrow night I think. Afterwards we went out to some place in Kansas City, Kansas...We got our hairs cut and checked out the shopping area. We also checked out the statues around the shopping area. It was a gorgeous day overall and a lot of fun!

Experiencing KC

Last night I went out and spent 6 hours wandering around Kansas City, it was a gorgeous day! We are really close the art museum so I walked over there to see what I could find. While it turned out the museum was closed for 'special events' (aka we don't want you here) I did see three bridal parties in the area outside the museum doing pictures. THREE! That's a ridiculous number of wedding parties in one place. Anyways, I followed suit and took lots of pictures there too, but not of them.

The museum has giant shuttlecocks (or birdies) lying around the lawn which are pretty neat. They were everywhere and totally random. There were even more on the backside of the building. In the picture you can see the lawn in front of the museum and then way in the back you can see the 'waterfall' that is part of the river running in front of my dorm. It's a pretty nice place to be.

I also found that the birdie in the back of the museum was sitting the opposite way of these two and decided it would make an amazing picture. Looks a little different, but it reminds me of a star. What do you think? We'd better make this more of an interactive blog starting today. ;)

After I left the museum I wandered down to the library which has a great view of the plaza and I read ... a book that I brought with me. But I think that is an experience worth repeating. I also wandered around down main street and it turns out there are actually things by us that aren't as expensive as the plaza...OMG ftw.

Afterwards Lori and my roommate Katie joined me for dinner at the Cheesecake factory. We were able to sit outside and while it was a little chilly the sunset was well worth the cold. I of course fail at using night vision but Lori was able to capture this picture of our view at dinner. I definitely giving sitting outside at the plaza five stars. There are street musicians that just sit and play all night so the atmosphere is most excellent. I will join any of you who wish to eat there, just give me a call.

I'm in trouble

Jesse says that I don't update this blog anymore...which is true. Since he keeps harassing me about it though I am on a mission today to go take some pictures and put them up. So basically, hold tight Jesse, pictures are coming.
